Space Coast Clash set for Apr. 1-2
Space Coast United is preparing to host its annual “Space Coast Clash” tournament on Apr. 1-2 at both Viera Regional Park and Wickham Park in Melbourne.
“The Clash is a great tournament for us,” said SCU executive director Scotty Armstrong. “We get to put all of our teams in a local tournament and they get to experience the potential of winning a tournament for themselves.”
The Clash is a US-Club Soccer-sanctioned competitive tournament for teams ranging from U9-U15 of any United States Soccer Federation affiliation.
Teams will compete in three divisions at the event including the Red (for Pre-ECNL, ECNL, ECNLR and highest-level teams), Black (second-tier) and White (third-tier).
“It’s always good to invite clubs into our programming and work with us on a tournament so I’m very excited about it,” Armstrong said. “We’ll be working as hard as we can in the next 2-3 weeks to get this right.”
Trophies will be awarded to teams finishing in first place and medals will be given to players on first- and second-place teams.
Armstrong also discussed the expansive turf facilities in Viera that allow the club to seamlessly hold this event, the annual Space Coast Cup event in the fall and potentially host more annual tournaments in the future.
“We are more than lucky to have this facility,” Armstrong added. “We work very closely with the county. I spent four years working to get the fields with the Tourist Development Council and the county and as part of that we have stuck very true to our relationships with the county and with the TDC to execute tournaments. It’s what we’re here for but we’ve also stayed very consistent in offering programming for Space Coast United and for our community and we continue to do that.”
Teams that have not yet registered for the Clash have the opportunity to do so through Mar. 17 through Got Sport and an online check-in, which is due by Tuesday, Mar. 28.
