Michael Arbour, who plays goalkeeper for Coach Vince’s Boys U14 ECNL team, has qualified for the Keeper Wars National Championship event to be held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex on July 23-24.

“I’m really excited,” Arbour said. “This is a really, really big opportunity for me and I can’t wait.”

Arbour advanced to the national championship after he took third place in a recent Keeper Wars event in Tampa.

“My goal is just to do as best as I can,” Arbour said.

Arbour said that he’s learned the basics of goalkeeping, along with how to handle the position and diving in his five years with Space Coast United. He also said that he was particularly proud of how he’s been able to progress with SCU.

“When I first started, I came and I was on the white team and I eventually got moved up to the red team,” Arbour said. I think that’s my greatest honor about Space Coast, is feeling accomplished to be moved up to the red team.”

Arbour noted that one of his strengths as a goalkeeper is his communication, adding that he has great relationships with the defenders on his team. Given that, it’s no surprise then that Arbour has said that his peers and friends have shown him a lot of support.

“They’ve been really happy for me and they’ve liked it,” Arbour said. “They’re cheering me on and making me want to do it even more.”

He also says that his family has been instrumental in his development as well.

“They’ve supported me really well,” Arbour said. “They continue to push me and make me better because they are my family and they’re the ones that get me into it and make me want to push myself.”

His mother Andi also expressed pride in her son.

“I’m incredibly proud,” Andi Arbour said. “He works really hard and has really achieved some amazing things and I look forward to watching him grow being a goalkeeper.”

Space Coast United will update Michael’s progress at the national event on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
