SCU Alum named to NISA All-League First Team
Nick Spielman, a Space Coast United alum who now plays for Chattanooga FC of the National Independent Soccer Association, was recently named to the NISA’s All-League First Team for his stellar play as a defender.
The club says Spielman started every game on defense last year.
“I was actually very surprised to being named to the All-League First Team,” Spielman said. “There are a lot of strong players in the NISA league and only so many spots on the All-League Team.”
Spielman noted that it was his effort level that got him to where he is now.
“As cliché as it may sound, hard work and commitment are the reasons I’ve made it to the level I have,” Spielman said. “I decided at a young age that my goal was to play professional soccer and any chance I get to work on my game I take it. Whether it is a pickup game with friends or an adult Sunday league game, I never turn down an opportunity to play. Also, really focusing on the detail of my game. If I wasn’t particularly good at one thing I would spend hours trying to get better at it.”
Spielman spent time at Space Coast United from the U14 through U17 levels, he said. He credited his time with SCU for helping his career.
“My time at Space Coast helped me because it gave me the final tools and knowledge of the game I needed,” Spielman said. “Playing at Space Coast really helped me look deeper into the game and how it works. One example is just where I needed to be on the field at all times and how I could create space for myself. Also, Space Coast always gave me the ability to come out and use the equipment when I wanted.”
Spielman also offered advice to those who wish to follow in his footsteps.
“I would just tell them to train as much as you can, you can always work on some aspect of your game. Also never give up after someone tells you no,” Spielman said. “I got rejected by numerous pro clubs before finally landing in Chattanooga. So never give up and if you have a goal, make a plan and go after it.”
The club announced via a social media post in December that Spielman would be returning to the club for the 2022 season.
