Savannah Oxley, who played with Space Coast United from 2009-2020, is in the midst of continuing her academic and playing career at the Florida Institute of Technology.

Oxley, an 18-year-old freshman at the school, is currently studying ocean engineering at the school as she seeks to excel both on the pitch and in the classroom.

Prior to her time at Florida Tech, Oxley was a standout at Viera High, where she even ascended to take captaincy of the team during her senior year.

Oxley believed it is her work ethic that has propelled her to such tremendous heights in soccer.

“What has brought me this far in my soccer career has been my dedication to the game and my commitment to being the best version of myself,” said Oxley via e-mail.

Oxley also indicated that she learned a multitude of things during her time at SCU that undoubtedly have helped her achieve the success she has.

“While playing with the club of course I learned the tactical and technical side of soccer, but most importantly I learned to find my love for the game,” Oxley said.

She also says there was a family atmosphere associated with SCU that she liked.

“I enjoyed so many things about playing for Space Coast but having been in the club for so long, having siblings and friends through the club, it really feels like a family,” said Oxley, who played her last five seasons under SCU coach Cal Dixon. “Many of the other coaches in the club would help me with extra training sessions, advice, or even just to let me borrow their equipment. Also, a lot of my teammates had the same aspirations to continue playing after high school so there was always a competitive but supportive culture on our team.”

Oxley also offered advice for those who wished to follow in her footsteps.

“I have so much advice but younger players, but most importantly I would tell them to believe in themselves,” Oxley added. “This is very important because there will be times where your journey will be rough and you will question your value but if you put in the work and have faith in yourself then you can accomplish your goals.”
