SCU Wins 3 Awards at FYSA AGM

Space Coast United Soccer Club was honored at the FYSA AGM Awards Banquet on Saturday, August 12 when two of their coaches and one of their players were recognized for excellence and contributions to the sport.

Allie Goff was named FYSA Girls Recreation Soccer Coach of the Year. Coach Goff has been coaching soccer since the day her college career ended. The driving force behind her passion is the hope she can provide the opportunity for girls to attain the most enjoyable career possible, just as she had herself in college and into a semiprofessional capacity if that is what a girl aspires to do. Parent, Arlene Bruno, said “The way Coach Allie handles and balances her life as a coach, wife, mom, and career woman is not only admirable, but unbelievably impressive. Her love for soccer and her love for her team showed. She never missed a single game even though she was pregnant during the season. All the while encouraging, pushing, teaching, leading, and inspiring the girls to not only believe in themselves but also each other; as a true team should.” Coach Goff currently holds a USSFD license with a recommendation to obtain the C license.

Cal Dixon was named FYSA Girls Competitive Soccer Coach of the Year. Coach Dixon’s coaching philosophy stresses the importance of accountability, responsibility, team unity, discipline, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and a desire to compete fairly. He is a fantastic role model who not only insists on his players striving for constant improvement, but applies that expectation to himself. He has an FA coaching badge from England, but since coming to America has attained a National license and Advanced National Goalkeeping license from the NSCAA.  His U14 Girls team finished the year in the Elite 8 of FYSA State Cup and were state champions in US Club Soccer’s Florida Cup. He currently holds a USSF D license and is working his way towards the goal of an A license.

JJ Bryant won FYSA Goal of the Year. JJ is a member of SCU’s 1999 Girls Travel team and is currently ranked in the Top Drawer Soccer 2018 Top 150 player rankings. She scored the FYSA Goal of the Year at the Disney Senior Showcase in December 2016. Coaches from the University of North Florida saw her score that goal from a free kick. JJ has accepted a scholarship to play soccer at UNF after graduation from Viera High School in 2018. She was invited to try out for the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s U20 National team and is looking forward to playing with them for an opportunity to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019.

Ann Fuller, President of the Board of Directors at Space Coast United Soccer Club said, “The Club would like to congratulate our 2017 FYSA Award winners; Allie Goff, Cal Dixon, and JJ Bryant and recognize that their hard work exemplifies the level of dedication and skill that enables the Club to fulfill our mission of providing high-quality soccer instruction to children in our community in a safe and fun environment. We’re thrilled to have been recognized by FYSA for excellence for a fourth straight year.” Since 2014, Space Coast United Soccer Club has won a number of FYSA coaching awards as well as TOPSoccer Club of the Year and Recreation Club of the Year.

Congratulations Coach Dixon, Coach Goff and Ms. Bryant!
