Our first annual Space Coast United Men’s College Showcase will have six men’s teams from across Florida playing at Viera Regional Park on February 20, 2010. The games will be played late morning (tentatively beginning at 11 a.m.) and through the evening (last game beginning at 4:30 p.m.), exact times and match-ups to be determined and provided on our website next week. The colleges playing are Rollins, Stetson, Florida Tech, Flagler, Embry Riddle and the University of North Florida. Tragic Event in Haiti
Dear SCUSC Club Member,SCUSC club members have, like most everyone else, been watching the terrible news from Haiti this week. For one member of the SCUSC family, the news was especially tragic.
Long time SCUSC coach Fidgi Haig, coach of our U15 and U18 girls State Cup teams, learned today that his father lost his life in Tuesday's earthquake. Additionally, his mother and younger sister are in need of medical attention, and his parents home has been destroyed. His other family members are fine, but have obviously experienced significant loss.
A camp for kids, is being sponsored by Kalli Kamholz-Ecker and Courtney Lundy (Baines), on Jan 30th 9 -12 at Viera Regional Park. This will be a tremendous fund raiser as there is significant interest in the local soccer community to participate. We expect some pretty high-level college coaches, other local coaches and celebrities, as well as current/former players to participate. For Details..
Check donations payable to "Fitzgerald Haig" for the Haig family can be mailed to:

**Becca Haig is currently working with her bank but is unable to get the Trust savings account opened immediately (lawyers still need to do their thing, which apparently will take some time). In the interim, donations (checks) should be made directly to FITZGERALD HAIG (not in the name of the trust).
Please join us in praying for the Haig family and all of the children and families devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.
Best Regards,
Space Coast United Soccer Club

Details...
Kevin Montes, our U16 Mens Elite team goalkeeper (and FYSA '94 Mens State team goalkeeper), was called up to play with the '94 Region 3 team at the recent '94 Winter Interregionals, held in conjunction with the Disney College Showcase. This is the first goalkeeper ever from Space Coast United to be so honored, placing him in a group of goalkeepers considered to be one of the top 10 in that age group in the country.
Katie Stengel recently attended the Region 3 '92 girls camp in Mississippi, and was selected to attend the U18 Women's National Team camp held in January at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. She is one of only 24 women selected nationally to attend this camp.
SCUSC Winter Storm Report
Despite winter weather that even the rest of the country considers cold, SCUSC teams and players continued to play the great game of soccer.
Examples of their hard work and dedication include:
A number of club teams competed at the Orange Bowl Classic in Miami over the New Year holiday. The U15 Premier girls team, coached by Rob Pedrick, advanced to the semifinals, where they lost 2-1 to the Ontario (Canada) provincial team, a team very similar to national level regional team in the US. The U16 Elite girls team, coached by Ali Goff, went 1-2-1 in their Orange Classic group, in the process posting a 0-0 tie with FYSA #8 Hillsborough County United. The U17 Elite girls, coached by Mike Potier, went 2-1-1 to win their group at the Orange Classic. Goalkeeper Sami Lewin allowed one goal in four games!
Finally, six club teams participated in the Ormond Beach Challenge held last weekend in a key tuneup for upcoming Regional and State Cup play. Our U12 Elite girls coached by Fariborz Zanganeh took the tournament title going undefeated and allowing only 1 goal all weekend. Two other SCU teams (U13 Elite girls coached by Carrie Terrill and U13 Premier boys coached by Hank Baron) reached the final in their respective divisions.
